NEWS:
Ironman 70.3 Cascais, Portugal
Ironman 70.3 Cascais this week reported that, as entries stand at the moment, South Africa will have the 4th largest representation at the event, more than the USA! The majority of the over 50 entrants from SA will, undoubtable, be from ATC and Embark, taking part in the Ironman 70.3 Cascais Tour. The event takes place on Sunday, 3 September and the Tour will be from 31 Aug – 4 Sept 2017. The Tour package includes accommodation in a 4 Star hotel in Cascais, breakfast, your race entry and ATC / Embark co-branded touring kit. For more details, please reply to this email or have a look at the flyer below.
ATC at Comrades 2017
ATC Running will have over 40 runners at Comrades this year and have therefore decided to book a gazebo spot at the finish. So we will be there to welcome you with some refreshments and a place to meet your family / supporters. We will send more details about final arrangements closer to the time. For now, please take note of the following:
· If you would like to give us a small bag to have waiting for you at the finish, we can collect this on Saturday, 3 June, at 12:00 from the entrance to the Expo at the Durban Exhibition Centre.
· Some runners indicated that they need transport back to Durban after the event. If you can offer transport to other runners or also need transport, please let us know.
· We will do a supported training run, this Saturday at 07:00, from the Mouille Point Lighthouse. (See Training for details)
John Cleophas will be doing this year’s Comrades in aid of one of the six official AmaBeadiBeadi charities, PrinkDrive, in an attempt to raise awareness of breast cancer. TRAINING: Details here...
SWIM: The canal swim will be on Saturday afternoons at 14:00.
BIKE: On Thursday morning, at 05:45, we will do a road bike ride from Point Virgin Active.
RUN: We will have a Track session on Tuesdays at 06:00 and on Wednesdays at 18:00. Sessions will be on the Green Point Athletics Track unless events are taking place there. In that case, track will be at the Green Point Cricket Club (across the road).
Supported Long Run:
On Saturday we will do a long run starting from the Mouille Point Light House at 07:00. We will provide some refreshments but you can also put your own in the ATC Ranger at the start. The route will be along the Promenade and Victoria Road to the top of Suikerbossie (16.5 Km) and return the same way. That will be 33 Kilometres but you can turn earlier or run further if you wish. Support stops will be roughly every 5 Kilometres with the first one at Clifton 3rd, then at the market between Bakoven and the 12 Apostles Hotel. The furthest stop will be at one of the viewpoints above Llandudno (about 15 Km).
Please let us know if you will be joining us and how far you need to run so we can get an idea of numbers to cater for.
EVENTS: Details here...
This Sunday is the Slave Route Challenge, taking runners through the Castle, City and Bo-Kaap. Good luck to all the runners doing their first Half Marathon or 10K. We will be setting up the ATC Gazebo at the finish on the Grand Parade.
On Sunday is also the Volunteer Wildfire Services’ annual VWS Trail Challenge, starting from Deer Park, in Vredehoek. This is the organisation’s largest fundraising event and they will be grateful for all support. The event is organised entirely by volunteer Firefighters under the VWS banner and all proceeds go towards VWS operations and training.
