NEWS:
New ATC Website:
Nearly all existing members have now received an invite to sign in on the new membership system and web site. The last batch will be done this week. If you have received an invite but have not yet updated your details, please do so as soon as possible. We would like to start issuing bar-coded membership key ring tags before the canal swim moves to the Friday morning slot (early October).
TSA Registration:
If you are doing the Hout Bay XTRI, Enduroman or the Bergriver Cross TRI and you have not received your TSA License Number via email yet, please contact us urgently so we can ensure that the license is issued in time.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK:
The ITU Women’s Award of Excellence was presented to Vivienne Williams at the Grand Final of the World Triathlon Series in Edmonton! Viv was nominated for this award by Triathlon South Africa in recognition of her avid involvement in the sport as a competitive triathlete, sports manager and coach. You can read the full article on the Triathlon SA Website
Dominique D’Oliveira won Warrior #6 at the Hartebeespoort Dam on 7 September! Dominique competed in the Black Ops Elite Ladies division and is now preparing for the next Warrior Race, taking place in Cape Town on 11 October.
Richard Murray came 3rd at the Menzis Singelloop in Enschede, Netherlands, last week, in a time of 23.39! This 5 mile race was won by Kenyan, Nicolas Togo, setting a new record (if we understand the Dutch site correctly) at 22:59. Richard’s time gave him an average of 2m52sec/km for the 8.2 Km race. Richard described this pace as painful.
Congratulations to My Training Day’s Matty Trautman, who won Ironman Wales this past weekend.
TRAINING THIS WEEK:
MID-WEEK: Sjoe, we are almost at the end of the week already and it seems today is payback time for the good weather over the past couple of weeks. We will do a Trail Run along the pipe track this evening (Thursday), weather permitting, starting at 18:00 from Kloof Nek.
WEEKEND: This coming weekend is very busy with the events related to the Cape Town Marathon. We will still have the following two training sessions:
The V&A Canal Swim on Saturday afternoon at 16:00.
The ATC Weekend Ride on Saturday morning, starting from the Camps Bay Police Station at 07:00. The ride will be around the Peninsula.
NEXT WEEK: We will do our Mountain Bike ride on Tuesday morning from Wembley Virgin Active at 05:30. There will be NO TRACK on Tuesday evening due to Wednesday being a public holiday.
EVENTS: Details here...
This weekend is all about the Cape Town Marathon and its sister events. Registration is at The Lookout, tomorrow (Friday, 10:00 to 19:00) and Saturday (09:0-17:00). You can still enter for the Fun Runs (Saturday) and 10 Km Road Race (Sunday) at Registration but not at the race start(s). Good luck to all the runners taking part in the various events. We will set up the ATC Gazebo at the finish venue on the Green Point A Track and it will be there for the whole weekend. Come find us there after your run.
SWIM: On Sunday is the September Gala, hosted by Cape Town Masters, in Stellenbosch. You can download the Entry Form from our new Events Calendar. Just click on the Gallery Icon for the event.
BIKE: The Lights by Linea Spring Hero Challenge series continues on Saturday with the 3rd criterium on Polkadraai, near Stellenbosch.
The Dr Evil Classic starts today in Knysna and finishes on Sunday with the Karoo to Coast Mountain Bike Challenge.
RUN: Outside of Cape Town there are two trail stage races this weekend. The Oystercatcher 3 day event in Mosselbaai and the two-stage Otter African Trail Run on the Garden Route.
NEXT WEEK:
The first Triathlon of the season will be XTRI Hout Bay, a brand new Triathlon on the calendar. The event, taking place on Heritage Day, will reportedly be fast and flat with 5 Km laps through the village of Hout Bay. According to WP Triathlon the season will be very busy after this with no weekends to spare until the Christmas break. We will publish the Triathlon Calendar once it is confirmed. Get ready!
Argus entries, for those who did not receive an invite from PPA, opens on Friday 26 September. Be ready.
Enjoy the weekend of running
