Ironman 70.3 Durban – Orientation Evenings

 

Our ATC track coach and head coach of Embark, STeve Attwell will be doing an Ironman 70.3 Durban race briefing this evening at the Green Point Cricket Club (GPCC) to settle all those pre-race nerves and put the athletes at ease.  This will be for the current Embark athletes and ATC members who have been training specifically for the race over the last 4 months.  We invite all ATC members to come and be informed.  Come in running gear as we will do a warm up and some plyometrics and then do the talk.  

The track session will still be on for members not wanting to attend the talk.

 

12 Weeks of focussed training towards the Gun Run commences this week, now with a dedicated running coach in the Southern Suburbs. Come join us this evening at the ATC Club house (GPCC) for orientation on the training and to welcome the new Southern Suburbs Embark running coach, Bev Baker, to the team.  Come dressed in running kit, as after the intro to the training we will be going for a 30 – 40 minute group run around the green lung of Green point.  Meet at 18:00 at the Green Point Cricket Club, there is ample parking, showers and a bar for afterwards.

 

The Cape Town Marathon is on the 20^th September and organisers are promising a world-class field and faster course as they target top-flight international status.  If you have a decent base from the recent Knysna Forest or Mauritius events (Half or Full), then join Embark’s Atlantic Seaboard running coach, Garth, as he takes you through the 7 week top up training program for the marathon.  He will touch on the training this evening at the same time as the Gun Run orientation, and then you will all go for the group run.

 

Thinking about doing Ironman 70.3 East London?  Are you a beginner or intermediate athlete?  Embark offers group training for all levels of triathletes.  This year, with the integration of Training Peaks, Embark will be offering more personalised training programs.  Come and listen to the orientation talk at the ATC club house, next Tuesday the 4^th of August at 18:00, for all the details about the training.  The new Embark Northern Suburbs coach, Jono Rumbelow, will repeat this talk next Wednesday evening (5 Aug), giving all the northern suburbs athletes a chance to get orientated.  This will be hosted at the Cape Multisport Club house, the PP Smit Stadium (home of the Bellville Cricket Club), at 18:00.  Anyone is welcome to attend either of these talks.

 

 

Our young team of trail runners continued their good form at the very tough Cape Winter Trail Series run in the Tygerberg Nature Reserve on Sunday.  In the 9 Km Short Course Challenge, Daniel Arendse won the Junior category after team-mate Dawood Goeiman fell badly and had to limp home holding on to second.  Bruzano Britz won the Minimee category.  Eugene Poss was the 2^nd Senior, Barry Goliath the 2^nd Veteran and Derek Oehly won the Masters category.

 

At the UWC Cross Country league on Sunday, Jenna Rudolph won the u/8 category and Juraida Aries the u/9 category.

 

This week we only have one scheduled training session, Tuesday Track at the Green Point Cricket Club this afternoon / evening at 18:00.

 

 

Sunday is the inaugural Ironman 70.3 Durban event and over 150 ATC and Embark athletes will be participating!  Please see the list of entrants with race numbers at the end of this email.  We wish all the ATC and Embark athletes good luck.  If you are going to Durban to support, let us know by replying to this email.  We will put you in touch with fellow supporters.

 

The first event in the Green Forest Series of downhill runs takes place on Saturday in the Lebanon Forest, near Grabouw

 

The 8^th and final Cross Country League event is on Saturday at CPUT in Bellville South.  WP Cross Country Championships will follow on the 15^th of August.

 

The Whale of Trail, a 53 Km trail run through the Potberg Nature Reserve, near Bredasdorp, takes place on Saturday.

 

The Spur Cape Winter Trail Series (CWTS) heads for the Taal Monument in Paarl on Sunday.  The series concludes on the 15^th of August in Kleinmond.

 

It was a manic scramble but we managed to secure an entry into the Double Century!  We have only entered one ATC team and are planning on putting a team together with the goal to finish with all 12 riders in 7 hours 30.  We will get back to all riders who have applied for slots on the ATC team next week.
