14 Dec '15: ATC T&E Update
Published by ATC Multisport on Mon, 14 Dec 2015ATC Pub Run ’15 – Jailbreak Results - Last Canal Swim of the Year – New Year’s Resolutions
NEWS:
ATC Pub Run 2015
This Tuesday, 15 December, we will have our annual Pub Run. We will start at the Green Point Cricket Club at 18:00. Perhaps a warm-up lap around the field followed by a plyometric drink in the GPCC bar so you can pre-order your boerewors roll before we venture out through the park to our first stop, La Vie. Next stop will be Sotana, near the Moulie Point Light House and then Ferryman’s in the Waterfront. These pubs will have bucket specials on the evening so please bring cash. We will then return to the GPCC for a boerie and beer. Please bring cash for the boeries and drinks as we won’t be in one place long enough to run a tab (no pun intended although it could be short for pub and run). Wednesday the 16th is a public holiday so we will linger at the GPCC after the run.
Fund Raiser – ATC Development Transport
Coach Barry Goliath uses his private vehicle extensively to get the ATC Development Kids and Juniors to training and events. Whilst the club reimburses him for fuel and helps with maintenance costs whenever possible, our funds are limited. Barry’s vehicle needed a new motor this month and the repair costs are well in excess of R5000. We will hold a fund-raised to assist Barry with these costs at our pub-run tomorrow evening and request that members who have the mean assist financially with the repairs. If you are unable to attend you can contribute by making a deposit into the club’s bank account. Please use ATCDevt and your Name as reference.
2016 ASA Licenses
There has been a delay in the delivery of 2016 Athletics SA Licenses. We will obtain these as soon as they are available and arrange collection times. The rate will remain R120 for a senior license and R50 for a Junior License. 2015 ASA Running licenses will be valid until the end of January 2016.
WP Triathlon AGM
The Western Province Triathlon Association (WPTA) Annual General Meeting will take place on Tuesday 19 January 2016 at the Green Point Cricket Club. The meeting will start at 19:00. We will forward the Agenda and Nomination form as soon as we receive this from WPTA.
IRONMAN TriClub Ranking
As an IRONMAN TriClub, Atlantic Triathlon Club is currently ranked number 1 in South Africa and in our region. We are the only SA club to have reached Division I status and is currently ranked 32nd globally! Yet, there are only 4 Ironman events in SA and only 45 of our members are registered with TriClub. ATC has over 250 licensed Triathletes and usually have more than 100 members participating at the three major Ironman events in South Africa. So if more members register, we are confident that we can rank much higher globally. So, if you have not yet registered, please follow the link below to register before 20 December, so we can collect points for all 2016 races:
You can select ATC by clicking on the "My Athlete Profile" tab and entering “Atlantic Triathlon Club” in the drop down menu.
Once you have registered as a member of Atlantic Triathlon Club, you will generate points for ATC any time you do an IRONMAN or IRONMAN 70.3 anywhere in the world. These points will go towards our TriClub Ranking. You can also join the TriClub Connect Facebook group to learn about the IRONMAN TriClub program, races, and just connect with other TriClub members.
RESULTS:
Jailbreak Escape
Congratulations to all the members who completed the Jailbreak Minimum or Maximum Escape on Friday. All ATC Members’ results are shown at the bottom of this post, including all the leg splits and rankings within each. You can also download a copy by following the link below. There are loads of pictures on our Facebook Page so please have a look and tag yourself.
Special congratulations to Jean De Villiers, who won the Maximum Escape, followed by Dean Hopf in second (1st OM), JD Neill in 4th (2nd SM), Marco Stichini in 6th (2nd VM) and Henry Wolstenholme in 7th (3rd VM). Douglas Burger (4th VM) got the prize for the 10th finisher of the 10th event. Caronne Jones was the 3rd in the Open Female category.
In the Minimum Escape: Tyron Ingle was 3rd Overall (2nd OM); Kobus Meyer won the Veteran Category with Ryk Lochner in second; Eugene Lindeque was second in the SM category with Rudolph Oosthuizen in third; Derek Oehly won the Masters Category; Alice Oosthuizen was the second lady home; Lara Fury won the Veteran Female Category; Alison Hartley was 3rd in the Master Female Category.
Sue Van Diggele won the prize for the best dressed bucket in the Mini Escape.
With the swim for the Minimum being declared non-wetsuit due to the warm water a lot of athletes were allowed to skip the swim and complete the other two legs but did not receive official finisher results. Esther Patience decided to find out the “naked truth” about swimming in fresh open water (the worst kind) without a wetsuit. And the truth is: it’s daunting, difficult and dangerous but absolutely doable! Well done Ether, who completed the swim with 2 minutes to spare.
Track & Field
Last Saturday (5 Dec) the ATC Kids Development team had their last event of the year at Blue Downs Stadium. Congratulations to John-Dean Links (u/14) who won the 100m, 200m and Long Jump Events. This past Saturday it was the ATC Junior Development Team’s turn at the Parow Athletics Stadium. Congratulations to James Paulsen (u/16) who won the 100 m and 200 m events.
ATC Development Awards
Whilst we always have some of our development team members present at the general ATC Awards evening, this year we decided to also hold separate Award Lunches for the ATC Kids and ATC Juniors. Our development teams now consist of more than 10 member each so it is not always logistically possible to get the youngsters together for a single occasion. We have also introduced Development specific awards this year to recognise outstanding performances within the teams. Last week the ATC Kids Development has their lunch at the Cahokia Spur in Cape Gate. Jenedean Rudolph received a trophy for her achievements in the Cross Country League.
At a separate lunch event, Bruzano Britz will receive a trophy for his performance in the Trail Series and winning the Minimee Category. Dawood Goeiman will be recognised for his performances including being selected into the Western Cape Schools Cross Country Team.
We received some vouchers from Spur Corporation for some of the kids’ lunches and the club covered the balance of the cost.
TRAINING THIS WEEK: Details here...
Below is our training schedule for the following couple of weeks. Please check our Website, Facebook Page and Twitter Feeds for impromptu rides or sea swims.
SWIM: The last Canal Swim for 2015 will take place this Friday the 18th. There will be NO swim on Friday the 25th, nor Friday the 1st of January. There is an open water event on New Year’s Day so we don’t need to look for alternate dates to replace the Canal Swim. Please follow us on Twitter and look for the tag #ATCSwimming as we will schedule impromptu group swims at Clifton 4th. This will depend on the weather and sea conditions though so we cannot publish the dates now.
This Friday will be the last in-door squad for this year. The squad will commence again early in January.
BIKE: Our mid-week rides (Thursdays) will be on the road. We will start at 05:30 from the Point Virgin Active and will ride to Hout Bay and back. There are no planned club rides for the weekends but do follow @ATCCycling on Twitter for any impromptu rides.
RUN: Our track sessions will take place on Tuesday mornings of the 15th, 22nd and 29th of December. Also on Wednesday evenings of the 23rd and 30th of December. There will be NO track this coming Wednesday the 16th of December. The ATC office and shop in the container will also be open during track times, except for the 29th and 30th of December.
EVENTS: Details here...
On Reconciliation Day, this Wednesday 16 December, the annual Barker Rock Swim will take place from Clifton 3rd Beach. The Gugulethu Reconciliation day 10 K and 4.2 Km fun run will take place at the NY 49 Stadium.
This Thursday, we will head to the Waterfront for the traditional Sundowner 10 K.
On Saturday there is the Cashkows.com 10 K run from the Milkwood Restaurant in Onrus.
The Tokai Manor House run will go ahead on the 26th albeit along a different route through the Tokai Green Belt.
On New Year’s Eve you can head to Gansbaai for a Half Marathon in the morning or do the Runners Memorial 8 K from the Moullie Point Lighthouse at 18:00 in the evening.
Start the New Year Fresh, very fresh, with the Clifton Cold Water Mile at Clifton 4th Beach.
FUTURE EVENTS:
Bike Transport to Ironman 70.3 East London
Focus-on-the-Finish-Line (FOTFL) will be offering bike transport to East London for Ironman 70.3 in January. They offer a no-hassle service and will ensure that your bike get there safely and ready to roll. There is no need to box your bike. Bikes will be carefully wrapped, padded and packed into custom-built trailers. FOTFL can also transport extra wheels and other luggage. Bikes will arrive in East London on Friday 19 January and you can drop it off straight after the event. Please contact japie@focusonthefinishline.com for more details or to book.
Dinner in East London – Ironman 70.3 Weekend
ATC usually books a couple of tables at Grazia in East London for the Friday (22nd) and Saturday (23rd) evenings, pre-Half Ironman Dinners. The restaurant is located in the Upper Esplanade, Aquarium Road, Quigney. It is next door to the Virgin Active Club so is quite central to the hotels where most of us will be staying. If you would like to be part of the ATC and Embark Group, please reserve a spot by completing the On-Line Form. Please note that seats are limited and the restaurant will require a deposit per person for large bookings.
NEW YEAR’s RESOLUTIONS:
We end the year on a high note with three exiting announcements / confirmations: The World Triathlon Series Cape Town Event has been confirmed for the 23rd and 24th of April; Ironman 70 Durban has been confirmed for the 19th of June 2016; and a new Ultra Distance Triathlon was announced for Cape Town, The Cape Ultra Triathlon, scheduled for 25 September 2015.
So plenty of goals for your New Year’s resolution. Have you made one yet? A couple of Embark Programs will kick off early in the New Year and may be just what you need. Coached group training towards doing your first Triathlon, Embark Lite, starts on 12 January with the goal to do your first Triathlon in April. For more experienced Triathletes, there is the Embark Intermediate ITU Sprint and Olympic Distance Triathlon program, to get you into racing mode. This program also starts on 12 Jan. Embark Group coaching towards Ironman 70.3 Durban or Croatia, will offer programs for Beginners and Intermediate levels and will commence early in the New Year.
See you tomorrow evening!
