Embark Training for Knysna Forest Marathon
The Knysna Forest Marathon is a tough but beautiful marathon, with vast sections of undulating off road terrain, steep downhills and a hard flat finish!  It is definitely not the easiest marathon but you can hardly choose a better one.  The Forest Half Marathon is equally beautiful but is a FAST, downhill race and definitely one of the best courses to run that sought after PB (personal best)!  Embark has set up a 12 week program for both of these events that combines all the necessary training and techniques to prepare you for either of these events.  To join or for more information, please contact STeve@embark.co.za

Discovery WTS Cape Town Q&A Evening
On Wednesday 30 March, ATC and Embark will be hosting a Q&A session where Race Director, Gary Marescia, will take you through all you need to know about multisport, the Discovery World Triathlon Cape Town and the Discovery Duathlon Cape Town. He will be joined by STeve Attwell offering nutrition, training and racing tips.  The session will take place at the Green Point Cricket Club after our 5 Km Club Time Trial.
We will have ATC gear available before and after the talk, including cold water hoodies, which will be permitted for the Triathlon.

Win a Ford for a Month – ATC Time Trial
At the next ATC 5 Km Club Time Trial, to be held on Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30 March, Kelfords Ford will again give one lucky ATC Time Trial runner the use of a Ford vehicle for a month.  Since our time trial is held on a Tuesday morning and Wednesday evening, we will select one runner at each of these runs, who will then go into the final draw, to take place on the Wednesday evening, after the run.  In order to be eligible, the winner must be present at the draw and must be a fully paid up ATC Member.

Win a FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN Entry – ATC Time Trial
FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN organisers gave us two free entries to the event as well as two UPGRADES to the GOLD PACKAGE.  The Gold Package is for runners who have already entered (or plan to enter) and includes a shuttle service to the start, exclusive access to the Gold Entrants areas and much more.  These will be handed out as lucky draw prizes to runners who do our 5 Km Club Time Trial on the 29th or 30th of March.  The draw will take place after the Wednesday evening run.  See more about this event on:

Easter Weekend
Apart from the swim on Good Friday, we will not have any other club training sessions during Easter Weekend.

EVENTS:  Details here...
This weekend is all about the Two Oceans with runs ranging from 56 metres to 56 Kilometres.  The Expo kicked off today at the CTICC, fun runs and trail runs take place on Friday with the big events, the Half Marathon and Ultra, concluding on Saturday.  ATC will have about 200 runners taking part in the various events and we wish all our runners the best of luck.  Our gazebo will be set up in the finish area so come around for a snack after your run.

Did you know that the entry fee for the very first Two Oceans Ultra Marathon, held in 1970, was 50 cents?  In 1971 the fee was doubled to R1 and in 1972 it was doubled again to R2.  Thank goodness they stopped this practice.  Otherwise, this year, for the 47th consequtive running of the Ultra event, the entry would have been R 35 Billion! (R 35 184 372 088 832)

FUTURE EVENTS:

Durbanville Triathlon:
The Durbanville Triathlon is back on schedule for the 16th of April!  This road bike event will offer Standard and Sprint distances and will take place on Phisantekraal farm.  More details on:  http://www.iqela-events.co.za/durbanville-tri/durbanville-tri-info.html

Maluti Double 90
ATC Cycling has made a provisional team entry for the Maluti Double 90 Team Time Trial.  This event is similar to the Double Century but, judging by the route profile, it looks like it will be a tougher ride.  Logistics of getting to Clarens will be more difficult and more expensive.  We therefore need some commitment from members wanting to do the event before the club embarks on such a big financial outlay.  We’ve asked Tessie Van Schalkwyk, from Travel Bug, to give us some budgetary figures for the travel, accommodation and bike transport.  We estimate that it will cost around R 8 300 per person sharing (R 10 900 for a single person) to do the event.  The team will also need to cover the expenses of at least one supporter and vehicle, so that will add another R1000 per rider.
These figures are based on the following package:
·         Return flights with bicycles from Cape Town to Johannesburg.
·         Return airport transfers to Clarens (and back) with bicycles.
·         Two nights’ accommodation at a 4 star guest house in Clarens, including breakfast.
·         Race Entry Fee.

If you are keen to do the event, given the costs shown above, please let us know.  If enough riders commit, we will proceed with planning.  The race is on 7 May.

Sanlam Cape Town Marathon
The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon and related Runs will take place on the 17th and 18th of September 2016.   The line-up consists of two Trail Runs (22 Km & 12 Km), a Fun Run (4.2 Km), a PEACE Run (10 Km) and a City Marathon (42.2 Km).  The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon strives to stage and develop Africa’s ICONIC city marathon, a marathon that in time will take its rightful place as one of the worlds “must run” marathons.  In 2014 & 2015 the race was accredited as an IAAF Silver Label Status Road Race, the only marathon in Africa to receive this status.  Furthermore, it is a Climate Neutral Event that promotes development through PEACE and SPORT. A great event to keep us motivated through winter!

Happy Easter!
